Since childhood, drawing has been my hobby and passion. I have drawn most days, ever since I had the motor control to hold a crayon. I use art as a means to improve upon nature and explore aesthetic hypotheticals that are impossible or difficult to create in real life. My grandmother, an historian and avid seamstress, gave me my first sewing machine when I was 13 years old. She shared with me her love of opera, and her projects as a volunteer draper and tailor with the Washington Opera. I am a storyteller by nature, and I like to think that the images that appear in my works actually exist in an alternate universe, where they have backstories, consequences, and are used by real people for practical purposes. Though I often take inspiration from history and existing styles, I will know I have succeeded as an artist and designer when no one compares my work to anyone else's.
